Interaction

This is a rural retreat and your Welcome Pack provides all the details of contacts for any issues plus local amenities and facilities.

Neighborhood

Camlad Barn enjoys free access to Marrington, an extensive, secluded estate where kingfishers, deer and even otters can sometimes be spotted. It’s an utterly private retreat where you can slow life down, take long walks, go wild swimming, and just have fun with nature.

The Shropshire Hills AONB is only minutes away from Camlad. Characterised by its tapestry of wild landscapes, fascinating historic sites, and chocolate box villages, it almost begs to be discovered.

There are countless cycling trails and walks in Shropshire and Powys to uncover, taking in forest-clad mountains, moorlands, and undulating meadows. While the market town of Montgomery is just a 6-minute drive away.

Space

Situated above a hidden river valley and blessed with rolling country views, Camlad Barn makes an idyllic retreat in the Shropshire Hills.

Newly refurbished, our holiday cottage has a bright and airy feel with floor-to-ceiling windows, plush furnishings and characterful original features. But it’s the luxurious, bubbling hot tub that’s the star feature. Tucked away in a walled garden, overlooking wooded hillsides, it makes every stay unforgettable.

The tastefully decorated sitting room offers sweeping views, and with patio doors and a wood burner, it’s the ideal space for family downtime whatever the weather’s doing outside. Adjacent, you’ll find a spacious dining room and a traditional fitted kitchen with all mod-cons.

Upstairs, there are two large double bedrooms and a twin room that’s tailor-made for children. For convenience, there’s a family bathroom and separate shower room.

Adjoining the cottage is an Elizabethan barn, where you’re welcome to stable up to three horses. The bridle trails in the Shropshire Hills are some of the best in the entire Welsh Marches.

A really lovely property
We just returned from a week at Camlad Barn, we had a fabulous time. The property is set in the middle of rolling fields and sweeping vistas, with amazing views in all directions including the nearby hills of Wales. The house is really spacious and very comfortable with a large garden outside the floor to ceiling windows on the eastern side of the building. Sunrise would have been amazing except at this time of year it's too early for me to be up! We were really lucky with the weather and spent most evenings sat in the garden till after 10 as it was still light. The house is well set up and has lots of good features, a huge kitchen and a double range cooker, our only complaints about the kitchen were that the fridge was a bit small, not too big an issue for us this time as there were just the two of us, but with more to feed it would be a squeeze to fit things in, and a set of scales would be a useful addition. The garden is enclosed but a gate from the area by the hot tub to the parking space would be a real benefit as dogs could get through the gates and out on to the road. Overall though we really enjoyed our stay and will certainly return, this was our first stay in this part of the country and we used it as a base for exploring, including trips to Anglesey and Chester as well as places more local.

Camlad Barn
A fabulous week in a great part of the world. We enjoyed the luxurious accommodation and distinctive decor. The amazing weather helped and we took full advantage of the hot tub. We loved all the rooms - the dining room was a bonus as the photos didn’t show it off enough! We are seasoned self caterers and found the kitchen very well equipped but could have done with a set of casserole dishes (Pyrex style). It may be useful for guests to be aware of the metal beam supports in the bedrooms or for them to have more padding along them. Not a problem for us as I barely make it over 5ft! The staff we met were lovely and helpful - Chris who came to check the hot tub gave me lots of suggestions of places to visit as did the man who was painting the gable end next door. We used to live on the other side of Shropshire and it was so good to be able to revisit old haunts and also visit new places. We would recommend the barn and love to come back and explore further, possibly looking at one of the other distinctive properties on your estate.

You need to provide grab rails in the bath, otherwise the facilities seemed very satisfactory.

Didn't want to go home
I think the biggest compliment to any holiday stay, is when nobody wants to go home at the end of he break. From the moment we walked into the barn we fell in love with the place. The interior is plush and all the fixtures and fittings really good quality, a lot of thought has clearly gone into making the accommodation work. The outside space is brilliant too, with a lovely secure walled-garden, which our 6 year old loved, a comfy seating area and the cleanest hot tub we have ever encountered. The water in the tub was sparkling clean and was a lovely relaxing focal point for the end of the day after walking on the estate or nearby towns! All in all - for us - just perfect...

Home for Christmas
Our first ever time away for Christmas, and we honestly loved every minute. So peaceful and beautiful surroundings, great for our dogs, and the hot tub with the scenery is just perfect. The Christmas decor was so lovely and made us feel at home. Both ourseleves and our friends have said we would happily return to Camlad Barn. Thanks for having us! :-)

Beautiful property
Camlad Barn is one of the nicest properties we’ve had the pleasure of staying at thank you. The hospitality and flexibility shown to us by Philippa and Jason on Friday morning whist we were waiting for the AA to fix our car was so kind.
